‘POO’ PARVATHY’S ROLE IN THE VIJAY-STARRER
Who gets to bag this sister role remains the million dollar question in Kollywood. While some sources say that Saranya Mohan is under consideration, a few others point to ‘Poo’ Parvathy.
The actress impressed the movie buffs with her exemplary performance in Poo but did not take up any offers in Kollywood due to unsuitable roles coming her way. Looks like Parvathy also has a strong chance of bagging this character. | ||||
Sura - A familiar fish
Expectations were great, grand and splendid for 'Sura'. This being Vijay's 50th film and it brings together Vijay, Tamannah and Vadivelu for the first time. Directed by S P Rajakumar, 'Sura' as the title suggests is a movie that is set in a fishing hamlet and the actor playing a good Samaritan to usher welfare in the lives of fisher folk.
A movie which underlines the political aspirations and ambitions of Vijay is a big one for his fans for he is achieving a milestone - completing his golden jubilee movie. A mass hero known for his big box office collections, the actor has a known path that he traverses in the recent times. 'Sura' too is no different. He is literally the one-man army who romances, fights, tries humour and challenges the baddie only to emerge triumphant in the end.
Interestingly, the actor has this time chosen to join hands with S P Rajakumar who has made a name for himself doing comedy films and that too with Vadivelu in the team. The trio has ensured that it is a light-hearted fare, right from the word go with enough thrills and spills.
'Sura' is a story that is set in Yaazh Nagar, a fishermen hamlet in coastal Tamil Nadu. The name of the place has a lot of political significance with the recent political turmoil over the ethnic strife in the neighbouring Sri Lanka. Sura (Vijay) is born and brought up here and he is obviously the darling of the masses in the area.
He, in the company of his friend (Vadivelu), who is another fisher folk, brings the roof down in laughter. Their one-liners are hilarious. Meanwhile, our hero comes across young bubbly Poornima (Tamannah) who chooses to end her life unable to cope with the death of her pet dog.
Slowly, as expected she gets attracted towards Sura thanks to his good deeds. Finally romance blossoms between them. When things seem to go well, trouble enters in the form of a greedy and corrupt Minister Samuthira Raja (Dev Gill). He wants to usurp the land where these fishermen live. His attempts to take away the wealth is resisted by Sura. They cross swords with each other.
The Minister hatches a conspiracy to bump off Sura with the help of his Ministerial post and authority and unleashes cops against him. But a man of guts and determination, he takes on them single-handedly. Who emerges the winner is the climax? Please watch the movie for the answer!
Vijay is as usual cool, bubbly and enthusiastic. He is energetic and a livewire on screen. He seems to have begun from where he left in 'Vettaikkaran'. He utters punch lines with indirect thrust on his political aspirations. However at many places, the actor reminds his earlier films from 'Pokkiri' to 'Kuruvi' to 'Vettaikkaran'. Tamannah is as usual cool and bubbly. She appears right there to romance and to dance for a couple of songs on screen.
Vadivelu is a real scene stealer as ‘Umbrella’. His body language, one-liners, punch lines and wits evoke instant laughter. He seems to share a good chemistry with Vijay. Riyaz Khan, Ilavarasu among others do their part well. The movie’s baddie in Dev Gill wins all accolades. He is menacing all through.
Mani Sharma knows the pulse and taste of Vijay-fans as he has loaded the film with tracks that are racy and riveting from the word go. Produced by Sangili Murugan and presented by Sun Pictures, the movie is more targeted at Vijay fans and has scenes to appease them.
Sura- Strictly for Vijay fans.
Vijay, 'Velayudham', Nehru Stadium
The Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai has of late become a preferred destination of biggies in Kollywood to host film-related functions in the sprawling structure, which could house thousands at a time.
And now, Aascar Ravichandran, producer of Vijay's 52nd film tentatively titled 'Velayudham', is planning to hold the movie's launch function at the stadium, in the presence of big guns of the industry.
Remember Ravichandran conducted the audio launch function of Kamal Haasan's K S Ravikumar directed 'Dasavatharam' in the same place, and the event was attended by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Jackie Chan among others.
It is said that the launch of the movie directed by 'Jayam' Raja would be held at the Nehru Stadium by June and those at Aascar are busy making arrangements for the grand event.
Genelia bags Vijay film
Genelia wasn’t lucky when she landed in Kollywood few years ago. Today she may not be counted in the ranks of Priyanka Chopra or Katrina Kaif in Bollywood but Genelia is still a charming favourite for many. Recently her success in Bollywood was repeated in Kollywood also. Her last film in Tamil 'Santosh Subramaniam' was a super hit and her jinx in Kollywood was broken for ever.
Her second round in Kollywood is gaining momentum. After the success of ‘Santosh Subramaniam’ she bagged ‘Uthamaputhiran’ opposite Dhanush and now she has got an even bigger film.
‘Jayam’ Raja who gave Genelia her first hit in Tamil has signed her for his film with Vijay. Vijay's 52nd film which is tentatively titled 'Velayudham' will be her next big thing. ‘Jayam’ Raja was particular that Genelia play the role because of her bubbly attitude which the character also wants very much. This is Genelia’s second film opposite Vijay after ‘Sachin’.

Who’s that Vijay girl?
The works for Vijay's new film ‘Velayudham’ directed by ‘Jayam’ Raja is silently progressing even as Vijay is busy with ‘Kaavalkaran’. A grand launching ceremony at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium is also being worked out by Aascar Ravichandran of Aascar films.
Meanwhile the gripping buzz at the moment is the choice of heroines. Sources close to the film say ‘Velayudham’ will have two heroines and there are three girls under discussion. Genelia who earlier did ‘Sachin' with Vijay, Hansika Motwani who has become a hot heroine even before the release her first Tamil film ‘Mappillai’ opposite Dhanush and Kajal Agarwal who is high on the priority list after ‘Mahadheera’.
‘Jayam’ Raja is likely to announce the final cast as early as this month end.
Madhi to shoot Vijay
Cameraman Madhi who started off with ‘Punnagai Desam’ is going from strength to strength. He has done a variety of films of different genre to showcase his ability. Oru Kalluriyin Kadhai, Ninaithale, Silambattam are some of Madhi's earlier films.
Films like Veyil and Nepali brought feathers to the cap of Madhi. And with ‘Paiyaa’ Madhi has become one of the hot shot cameramen in demand.
Now Madhi is in the big league after ‘Jayam’ Raja signing him to shoot Vijay in ‘Velayudham’. After Karthi, Madhi has got the opportunity to work with another major star. ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ will be Madhi’s second film with Karthi.
Vijay is Siddique's actor
After a long time a Vijay film is progressing without his regular codes in place. Heavy mettle intro song, punch dialogues, flying villains etc are put on the side by Siddique in ‘Kaavalkaran’, sources say.
With criticisms from all over for his regular routine flicks of late Ilaya Thalapathi Vijay has finally given into his director. In ‘Kaavalkaran’ it is the director who is calling the shots, they say. There won’t be a intro song elevating hero to a super hero or punch dialogues at the wrong places or villains flying all over at a breath of the hero in ‘Kaavalkaran’.
So as clay in the hands of God Vijay has submitted himself into the hands of Siddique. The sudden shift of attitude may be surprising for many but all Vijay lovers are seeing this as a change for the better.
After the earlier Siddique-Vijay combo ‘Friends’ is an all time classic. We expect them to repeat the feat.
